The event began with a champagne reception, courtesy of Platinum sponsors Holman Fenwick Willan, during which members and guests were entertained with a classical repertoire provided by a quartet from Oxford Philomusica. The performance was sponsored by George Tsavliris, Chairman of the Oxford Philomusica Trust.

Welcome
Dr Aleka Sheppard, LSLC Founder and Chairman

A welcome address was given by Dr Aleka Sheppard, Founder and Chairman, LSLC Maritime Business Forum who expressed her appreciation to the Centre’s members and guests, representing a wide cross section of the maritime industry and the judiciary, for attending this event.  She praised the event’s sponsors for their unremitting support without which an event of this calibre could not take place, thereby losing the momentum of the Cad tradition of tackling difficult issues of international law and regulation in a neutral forum.

Lord Mustill’s career, achievements and personal qualities were recalled by his friend and colleague Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers.

Jonathan Webb of HFW

Jonathan Webb, a partner with principal sponsors Holman Fenwick Willan, announced that his firm would make an extra Christmas financial donation to the Mission to Seafarers to reflect his organisation’s appreciation of Lord Mustill’s contribution to the development of commercial, particularly maritime, law.  After a toast and to rapturous applause, Lord Mustill thanked the LSLC and HFW for their generosity.
